Hi

I'm organizing a Gipf competition, turn based, trough the forum of boiteajeux.net.
The deadline for register was the 31st december, but I find this website tomorrow, so if there are some players interested here a delay isn't impossible.

I think that's the biggest Gipf competition, so maybe it's a candidate for IAGO World Tour ?

I am proposing a simple stat for encouraging players to play in a number of games. First, I am suggesting we cap off a list for a game, or a stat at 10 for now. So, top 10 Elo, etc... would be capped off at 10. I would have the stat for the top 10 for a game under the game.

In regards to a stat to track, we could count up the number of top 10 appearances a player has on each game, and keep a running total and post that on the leaderboard page.

Let me know if this sounds like a good idea we can eventually implement.

This observation came to mind. As we happen to be getting more sites on board, there is a definite chance of them having games that don't fit IAGO and are not abstract strategy games. When they feed the game results into the data stream, it would be important for IAGO to not pick up games that don't fit it. Abstract in front of the name of the game would help here. I believe it is of benefit if this data stream set of standards gets adopted across all of boardgames, including the categorization notation.

Anyhow, just my two cents on this.

The look is similar, and in all other aspects it functions at least as well as the previous design. This template is completely CSS-based, uses no javascript, and is templated to separate as much as possible the content from the structure. I warmly welcome any and all suggestions. The site is under version control (Subversion) and once everything is migrated and working, I can begin providing access to designers and admins to the code itself.

I am very pleased to announce the publication by NestorGames of my board game (and 2008 & 2009 IAGO World Tour participant), Penguin Soccer.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that everybody loves seeing penguins sliding around on the ice. And soccer is the world's game, right? So take some cute families of penguins, give them an icy soccer field and a ball, and watch the slippery goodness that ensues . . .

I designed Penguin Soccer back in 2007, using the Icehouse Gaming System, and it has enjoyed some popularity at the website Super Duper Games. This exposure allowed it to come to the attention of Nestor Romeral Andres and his independent board game publishing company.

Penguin Soccer is a perfect information, abstract strategy board game for 2 players, ages 8 and up, and each game takes about 20 minutes.

I hope you will give the game a try, and if you enjoy it, spread the word. Penguin Soccer can be purchased from www.nestorgames.com and costs 19 Euros. Shipping is 5 Euros, regardless of how many games you order (or where you live), so get together with your friends to buy multiple copies and split the shipping costs!

I haven't had a whole lot of success organizing events in the real world. Let's see how abstract strategy games do for a more specialized audience.

As some of you know, I'm part of the Society for Creative Anachronism, the medieval recreation society. This Saturday, the Barony of Roaring Wastes will be holding a celebration of Twelfth Night. I'll be doing a gaming tournament of medieval abstract strategy games. The games include:

Alquerque
Checkers
Jungle
Hneftafl
Nine Men's Morris
Twelve Men's Morris
Ming Mang
Chess
Byzantine Chess
Shogi
Xiangqi
Tamerlane's Chess

Players will play up to six of these games. Complete rules are here:

All these games date back to the middle ages. It will be interesting to see how things work out for a game tournament at an event that is not exclusively dedicated to games. I'll let you know afterwards. If nothing else, for all we know this may be the first tournament of Tamerlane's Chess to be held in the last 600 years.
